Armed Suspect Dead After North Shore Hostage Situation
Updated: HPD Chief said investigation was yet to determine if police gunfire was the cause of death.

An armed suspect is dead after a tense hostage situation inside a vehicle on Oahu鈥檚 North Shore, ending a brief standoff, multiple sources confirm to Hawaii News Now.
Sources also tell HNN that the hostage is safe.
The suspect was holding the victim hostage inside a pickup truck near the Hawaii Polo Field.
The incident started about 11 a.m. and police fatally shot the suspect about 12:20 p.m.
Sources tell Hawaii News Now that a police chase preceded the standoff. Shots were fired during the chase, but there was no immediate word on injuries.
A photo of the scene showed HPD鈥檚 Special Services Division, also known as SWAT, at the scene.
The victim and suspect were reported to be in a white pickup truck.
An HNN reporter on the scene reported hearing at least six gunshots as police moved in.
Following the gunfire, Honolulu Fire Department and EMS vehicles could be seen rushing toward the scene.
Farrington Highway was closed in both directions in the area, but has since reopened.
The state Transportation Department said Dillingham Airfield in Mokuleia had reopened after the conclusion of the HPD investigation.
