Blangiardi Nominates Ann Botticelli To Honolulu Police Commission
The mayor tapped a well-known former journalist and corporate communications professional.
Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi’s latest nominee to the Honolulu Police Commission is apparently Ann Botticelli, a former journalist and airline executive who supported his campaign for mayor.
After two unsuccessful tries, Blangiardi announced on Friday that he’d made a third selection to the commission that oversees the police department, but he declined to say who聽at a press conference.
However, later that day he that Botticelli is his pick, according to a story published Saturday.
Messages left with Blangiardi’s office and Botticelli were not returned Saturday morning.
This is the mayor’s third selection for the commission, which provides oversight to the Honolulu Police Department and is currently in the powerful position of hiring the next chief.
Botticelli, 61, retired last year from Hawaiian Airlines as its senior vice president of corporate communications and public affairs. Previously she was founder and president of the Hoomalamalama Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission was developing “educational products that raise awareness of and funds for worthy charities.”
For six years, Botticelli was the vice president for community relations and communications for Kamehameha Schools. She has also held positions with Child & Family Service, a nonprofit, and Communications Pacific.
Prior to that, Botticelli was a news reporter at KHON, the Advertiser and KITV. She is a graduate of Michigan State University and Punahou School.
She has served on the boards of numerous local organizations including the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, Bishop Museum, the Polynesian Voyaging Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii, Blood Bank of Hawaii and Hawaii Appleseed Center for Law and Economic Justice and Teach for America Hawaii.
