On Saturday, a second person on Oahu was confirmed to have a more contagious variant of COVID-19 that originated in the United Kingdom, according to the state Department of Health. The first case was reported on Friday, also on Oahu. A health department spokesman said meaning the virus is likely circulating in the community.
Statewide, 1.7% of people tested during the past week have been confirmed to have COVID-19. That figure was 2.2% in both Oahu and Maui counties, while Hawaii County had a 0.8% rate of positive tests and Kauai County’s remains lowest at 0.1%.
