HAWAII VIRUS TRACKER — Jan. 10: 200 New COVID-19 Cases And 2 Deaths

One of the deaths was on Oahu, the other was a Hawaii resident who died outside of the state.

Hawaii health officials reported 200 new cases of COVID-19 statewide on Sunday, including 128 on Oahu, 30 in Maui County, 12 on the Big Island, nine on Kauai and 21 residents diagnosed out of state.

There are currently 129 people hospitalized in Hawaii with COVID-19, including 20 patients on ventilators.

The state has seen an average of 175 new cases a day in the last week — an 87% increase from Dec. 26 when the 7-day average was 93.

Sunday’s case numbers are based on data reported to the Department of Health by labs across the state on Friday.

Reporting Lag

Civil Beat’s virus tracker is updated when the state releases its daily numbers. The state posts new data daily at noon. Daily reports reflect laboratory results collected up until 11:59 p.m. two days prior, leaving a 36-hour lag between when results are submitted to the Department of Health and when the state reports them publicly.

The official from the virus is 309. Civil Beat calculates at least 315 people have died from the disease, including six deaths on Hawaii island confirmed by local county authorities that are still pending medical verification by the state.

Across the state, 3.4% of people tested during the past week have been confirmed to have COVID-19. On Oahu, that figure is 4.4%.

More than 35,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the state The islands have received 91,700 doses to date.
