Unfortunately, we are facing a budget shortfall of magnanimous proportions. I would push more for layoffs than furloughs, but we all know both will be necessary. We should also begin with a full forensic audit of the DOE. Sometimes we need to spend a little more to figure out where we will need to trim. I fear the free loaders in the DoE are cringing to know that they will be next for the chopping block. Sucks that we had to go through the pandemic to know we need to make huge changes in the way we handle our affairs. Too many workers with not enough work.聽

On the BIG Island for 3 decades I've always felt we got short shrift re state news. Good to see CB filling that niche so well. Articles by Lee Cataluna have been especially informative and pointed. It's the kind of writing I was used to seeing prior to moving to Hawaii and am glad to see it bloom here. AMAURYarts

"Where is the money to come from?" Well, to start with, how about cutting down the UH "athletics" budget???聽 We are one of the majority of states where the highest-paid public employees are "coaches"... Here, paid from high-$200K to over $700K@!聽 Unbelievable! Total budget, over $35 MILLION/year! Next, I read for stadium rebuilding - @ $350 million - has already been appropriated!?!聽 Is it time for some INTELLIGENCE to appear on the scene???
