VIRUS TRACKER — Oct. 28: 62 New COVID-19 Cases In Hawaii

At least 30 public school students on Lanai have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Hawaii health officials reported 62 statewide on Wednesday.

The new cases include 41 on Oahu, five on Hawaii island, two on Maui, one on Kauai and seven on Lanai, where an outbreak is growing. Six residents were diagnosed out of state. No new deaths were reported.

Lanai is under a stay-at-home order and has recorded 94 cases since last week. At least have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus — double the number affected last week.

One case from Oahu was removed from the counts because of updated data, according to the . Two previously reported deaths on Lanai and Maui were determined to not be related to COVID-19 and were removed from the counts.

The statewide official death toll is 213. Civil Beat calculates at least 223 people have died from the disease in Hawaii, which includes confirmed deaths on Hawaii island that have not been recorded yet by the Department of Health.

Hospitalizations have been on the decline for more than a week. There are currently 61 people , including 15 people in intensive care.

Oahu is currently in which includes some relaxed rules for restaurants and gyms, among other things.

Of all the cases identified in Hawaii since March, 7% have required hospitalization and 95% were residents.
