Twenty-one of the new cases were recorded on Hawaii island and 68 were recorded on Oahu. The Department of Health said Friday one Honolulu case was re-categorized to Hawaii island because of updated information. Details about the latest death were not immediately available.

Thursday marked the launch of the state’s new quarantine bypass program for travelers who have recently tested negative for the coronavirus. More than 8,000 people flew to Hawaii on the first day of the program.

The state’s official COVID-19 death toll stands at 185 but that does not include nearly due to reporting lags. At least 203 people have died from the disease in Hawaii.

The average number of daily new cases reported on Oahu has been on the decline in the last week, with an average of 61 cases in the last seven days. Approximately 3.1% of tests conducted last week returned positive for the COVID-19 virus. Oahu may be on track to graduate to and lift some COVID-19 related restrictions on businesses such as gyms. The average case count and testing positivity rate must stay below 5% for two consecutive weeks to move into Tier 2, which could be as early as next week.

Roughly a third of all coronavirus cases identified in the state so far have been . with the virus in Hawaii since the start of the pandemic, approximately 7% of everyone diagnosed.

Of the 13,853 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Hawaii, 95% have been local residents.
