VIRUS TRACKER — Sept. 28: 90 New COVID-19 Cases On Oahu
No deaths were reported Monday.
Hawaii health officials reported 90 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, all of them on Oahu.
New data on the Department of Health’s shows there are 1,829 active cases of COVID-19 in Hawaii — a figure that is trending downward. The state has identified 12,203 cases to date, 10,215 are categorized as being released from isolation, meaning they no longer have symptoms.
Over the weekend, the number of people categorized as released from isolation nearly doubled from 5,307 to 10,126 people. That’s because the department has been getting better at data entry, according to DOH Disease Investigation Branch Chief Emily Roberson.
The change reflects a more up-to-date and accurate picture of the current situation in Hawaii, she said in a statement sent to Civil Beat.
Oahu still limits gatherings to no more than five people. The island is using a new framework to guide reopening based on two metrics: the average number of daily cases and the average number of tests that return positive each week — a figure referred to as the positivity rate.
