State health officials Wednesday reported 339 new cases of COVID-19, including 90 that were belatedly included in the state’s data after They also reported the death of another person with COVID-19 on Oahu.

Those 90 cases were people who were diagnosed between Aug. 20 and Aug. 31, according to Department of Health officials who said on the Wednesday that the errors have been fixed.

The Oahu man who died was in his 50s and had other health conditions. He was hospitalized at the time of his death.

Thirty-five of the latest cases were on Hawaii island, including one that was recategorized from Honolulu. Two new cases were verified on Maui, and the remaining 302 were on Oahu, where the disease is most prevalent. No new cases were found on Kauai.

The highest daily number of infections in Hawaii was on Aug. 13, with 355 cases.  An average of about 250 new cases have been reported daily during the last week.

Almost 6,000 people in Hawaii have active infections documented by health officials.

A federally funded testing initiative is running on Oahu through Sept. 14. Specimens are collected and sent to California for processing.  As of Wednesday, 91 of 13,527 tests had come back positive — a less than 1% positivity rate — according to Mia Heck, a spokeswoman with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Twenty-seven of today’s cases reported by the Department of Health were identified during the federally funded surge testing initiative, Director of Health Bruce Anderson said in a statement.

More than 50,000 people have registered for a testing appointment since the program began last Wednesday. Anyone can get tested regardless of whether they have symptoms.

Federal highway officials denied the use of H-3, citing safety concerns and the military’s access between Pearl Harbor and Kaneohe Bay, but the state proceeded with the mass testing effort there on Tuesday anyway.
