The final day seemingly went a little long for this spectator in the House gallery. Besides Choy, other departing House members include Leeward Coast Rep. Andria Tupola, who is running for governor; Maui Rep. Kaniela Ing, who is running for Congress; Mililani Rep. Beth Fukumoto, also running for Congress; and Windward Oahu Rep. Ken Ito, who is running for the state Senate.

In a gesture that harked back to her days as Education Committee chair, Sen. Jill Tokuda places stickers on children’s building blocks at some senators’ desks during a recess. There’s a tradition of outgoing legislators leaving behind meaningful trinkets, and the senator representing Kaneohe and Kailua is leaving to run for lieutenant governor.
