A lockdown has been lifted at Kapolei Middle School after a shooting threat was made on social media.
The school principal announced an all-clear Friday morning.
Hawaii Department of Education spokeswoman Donalyn Dela Cruz says school officials were notified of the threat Thursday night and reported it to police. She says parents were told before school started Friday that there would be increased security and police presence.
She didn’t immediately answer questions about why officials decided to allow students onto campus after knowing about the threat.
She says the FBI is involved in the investigation.
The Hawaii threat comes two days after a shooter killed 17 students at a school in Parkland, Florida.
Someone posted a message on Instagram Thursday saying they planned to “shoot up” the middle school at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
Honolulu police are treating it as a terroristic threatening case.
