has a new poll showing that 80听percent of Hawaii voters believe a 鈥渄eath with dignity鈥 option听should be available听for a terminally ill person who is mentally capable to receive a prescription for life-ending medication.
The poll, conducted by Anthology Research for Compassion & Choices Hawaii, indicates voters across all demographics believe the option should be legal in Hawaii.
That’s according to a press release from Compassion & Choices Hawaii, which advocates for the same.
This is the third study in recent years by the same organizations, bolstering the position that support for medical aid in dying is growing.
鈥淲e know that kamaaina overwhelmingly support aid in dying because we hear from them every day,鈥 said Mary Steiner, the group’s听campaign manager. 鈥淭erminally ill adults want and deserve access to the full spectrum of end of life options to make a peaceful death possible.鈥
Aid in dying, says the press release, “is a legally permitted end-of-life medical care option” for the terminally ill in Oregon, Washington, Montana, Vermont, California and Colorado.
