A longtime Honolulu journalist is moving into the public-relations business.

on Tuesday announced that Craig Gima is its new communications director.

Gima, says a press release, has more than 30 years of experience “in telling stories online, in print, and on television.”

It includes almost 19 years at the , most recently as assistant webmaster.

“Craig’s experience will help AARP Hawaii communicate our mission to deliver real possibilities to enhance the quality of life for all as we age and the value we deliver to our more than 150,000 members in Hawaii through advocacy, service and information,” said AARP Hawaii State Director Barbara Kim Stanton. 

“AARP is not just for retired people,” Gima said. “AARP is trying to disrupt the stereotypes of aging and I am pleased to join an organization with such a strong social commitment to improving people’s lives.”
