Mark Garrity, Honolulu’s deputy director of the Department of Transportation Services, is now聽acting director of the agency.
The appointment comes in the wake of聽DTS聽Director Michael Formby being asked to serve as acting executive director of the .
Formby takes over for Dan Grabaukas, the HART executive director who resigned last week.
The city says Garrity聽will serve as acting DTS director until the HART board names an interim or permanent executive director and CEO.
Formby will then resume his DTS work.
鈥淢ark Garrity and Michael Formby have worked extremely well together running the day-to-day operations at the Department of Transportation Services, and the public should see no difference in the level of service and professionalism demonstrated by this critical city agency,鈥 Mayor Kirk Caldwell said in a press release. 鈥淢ark has a deep understanding of the transportation related issues here on Oahu, and he鈥檒l do a fine job running DTS during this interim period.鈥
Garrity has been with the City and County of Honolulu since 2013.
“As deputy director of DTS he has led several major initiatives including implementation of Complete Streets policies and practices, improvements to bus service, and coordination with HART on construction of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project,” says the city.
