“The lowest composite score was 17.7 by students in Nevada. Mississippi, South Carolina and Hawaii also notched average scores below 19,” says the company that produces the college preparatory test.

Students in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire scored highest.

Generally, students in the Northeast of the country scored highest on the ACT, while those in the South and West “lag behind.”

The ACT is administered to high school juniors and seniors across the country,” says The Hill. “Nearly 2.1 million students — about 64 percent of the graduating class of 2016 — took the ACT last year, the company said.”
