Hawaii’s seed industry is worth $151 million for the 2015-2016 season, according to new data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
That’s a 7 percent increase from the previous season, and the first time the industry’s value has risen since the 2011-2012 season.
Seed corn makes up 97 percent of Hawaii’s seed industry and is valued at $147 million, the USDA estimated.
The seed industry is expected to harvest 4,000 acres this season, a decrease of 6 percent from last year.
