We’re Taking Election Coverage To The Town Square — Literally
Join us Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bishop Square to get a head start on this election season.
Here at Civil Beat we talk a lot about the virtual town square — our cyberspace gathering place for people to discuss and debate issues that are important to Hawaii.
But this week we are venturing offline and hosting an event in an actual town square. On Tuesday, we are scheduled to be in Bishop Square, generally near the corner of Bishop and King streets, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help people get familiar with Hawaii’s voting process.
The deadline to register to vote in the Aug. 13 primary election is Thursday. We’re hoping this event will make that civic duty a little easier and we’ll have staff on hand to point you in the right direction for the online registration. It is super-easy this year now that .
We’ll also have a little fun with the mayor’s race. You can register your approval or disapproval of the Honolulu rail project and vote for your favorite mayoral candidate (there are 11 people in that race!) in our highly unofficial poll. And you can tell the mayoral hopefuls what issues are affecting you the most.
We’ll be taking lots of photos and videos and posting the results online and on social media.
