House Dems Pay Staff Well
A report says that聽37 of the 50 biggest spenders on aides’ paychecks in the U.S. House are Democrats.
When it comes to paying staff, there is a “pay gap” between Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives.
A new 聽finds that聽37 of the 50 top聽spenders on paychecks for staff are Democrats.聽On average, they pay聽about $150 per day as compared with the GOP.
Says Roll Call, “Though recent cuts in congressional office budgets have applied to both parties equally, there鈥檚 more pressure on Republicans to limit spending, said Worth Hester, senior fellow and assistant director at Georgetown’s Government Affairs Institute.”
House lawmakers overall paid staff an average of $2,480 per day in the 114th Congress, the current 2015-2016 session.
Out of the 433 House members checked,聽Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-Ill.) paid the most:聽$2,992 per day and聽$1,352,328 in total.
No. 433 was Rep. Rod Blum (R-Iowa), who spent just $1,473 per day and $665,727 total.
Democrat Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii was right in the middle of the pack at N0. 219 ($2,481 per day,聽$1,121,450 total).
Democrat Mark Takai was among the lower spenders at No. 389 ($2,167 per day,聽$979,271 total).
