Hawaii ranks No. 6 over all for patriotism, including ranking No. 1 for the number of active-duty military personnel per capita — no surprise there, given the number of bases and defense facilities here.
We are also at No. 9 for the number of veterans per capita, and at No. 10 for the percentage of residents who enlisted in the military.
Virginia, Alaska and South Carolina are the most patriotic states, while New York, Connecticut and New Jersey bring up the rear.
WalletHub observes that patriotism appears to be waning nationally.
“While 38 percent of Americans said the U.S. was the best country in the world in 2011, that number fell to 28 percent in 2014,” the study says.
