A man charged with murdering his mother last week in聽Maili on Oahu’s Leeward Coast is聽employed as a guard at the聽Oahu Community Correctional Center.
The Honolulu Police Department has聽confirmed with the Department of Public Safety that the聽suspect in the Friday afternoon shooting is Anthony Pereira, who聽worked as an adult corrections officer at OCCC.
DPS said Pereira聽has not reported to work since April 10聽and聽has been on leave without pay since then.
鈥淥ur concern is with the grieving family at this time,”Public Safety Director Nolan Espinda said in a press release Monday. “The Department of Public Safety is conducting an internal administrative investigation and will continue to monitor and assist the Honolulu Police with their criminal investigation into this devastating matter.”
Pereira, , is charged for “murder in the second degree, promoting a dangerous drug, kidnapping, terroristic threatening and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. His bail has been set at $1 million.”
The report adds, “Court records indicate that a temporary restraining order was taken out against him several years ago.”
Pereira, who was hired by DPS聽in August 2002,聽is currently being held at OCCC and will be transferred to Halawa Correctional Facility later Monday.
