Hawaii’s Office of the Attorney General said聽Friday that a federal court is allowing the transfer of three Maui County hospitals to Kaiser.
The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals聽issued the order聽for聽Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lanai Community Hospital.
According to the press release, Gov.聽David Ige and the United Public Workers union filed a status report with the court stating聽that聽“the parties are in the midst of productive conversations regarding a possible resolution of a lawsuit brought by the union in United Public Workers v. Ige.”
The UPW represents many workers at the hospitals.聽The governor聽also asked the court to let transition activities resume, something聽UPW did not oppose.
Attorney General Doug Chin said in a statement, 鈥淎llowing transition activities to resume is the best way to give everyone involved adequate time to prepare and minimize disruption in services. Governor Ige鈥檚 top priority is to protect patient care at the Maui region hospitals.鈥
