Gabbard: No Interest In Top Party Post
The Hawaii congresswoman issues a statement saying she “would not accept” the post of Democratic National Committee chair if it were offered.
Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard issued a statement Thursday saying there has been “speculation聽that I聽might be interested in becoming Chair of the Democratic National Committee.”
She went on to say, “I have absolutely no interest in that position. If it were offered to me, I would not accept it.”
Gabbard got into a well-publicized spat with the current national committee chair, Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, in聽October after complaining that the party was not organizing a sufficient number of presidential candidate forums. As a result, Gabbard was disinvited from one of the events.
In February, Gabbard resigned as vice chair of the national committee at the same time she endorsed the presidential candidacy of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. She emerged as one Sanders’ key supporters in Congress.
There has been speculation that Sanders may be聽 as the committee chair as he negotiates the terms of his concession in the presidential race with party leaders and the Hillary Clinton campaign.
