The U.S. 聽that聽the City and County of Honolulu has been selected as聽one of six cities for technical assistance with sustainable design strategies under a program called聽Greening America鈥檚 Communities.
The聽EPA plans to聽fund a team of designers in the next few months to visit each city “to create designs that will support a larger planning and implementation process” for a pilot area.
“Through the Green America鈥檚 Communities program, these teams will provide assistance to help communities use green infrastructure and other environmentally friendly designs to create more walkable, bikeable, and vibrant neighborhoods,” says an EPA press release.
Honolulu will receive assistance “to design street improvements and green infrastructure to better support walking and economic development around two planned rail stations.”
Let’s hope it works: We definitely need more green space and walking and 聽bike paths.
The other cities picked by the EPA are聽Columbia, South Carolina; Brownsville, Texas; Oklahoma City; Muscatine, Iowa; and Multnomah County, Oregon.
