Ikaika Anderson will be leaving his post as vice chair of the Honolulu City Council.

Council members are scheduled to vote next week on a that would replace him with Councilman Joey Manahan from Kalihi.

“It鈥檚 been made apparent聽that members聽want a change, and I am a team player and I am absolutely聽OK聽with that,” Anderson said.

Anderson wants Kymberly Pine to take his place.

“I would聽like to see someone who is strong and independent,聽and who is a veteran who has a wealth of聽experience聽and knowledge, and to me that is Kymberly Pine,” he said.

But it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. A that would give Pine the job isn’t included on .

Instead, the Council will vote on Councilman Trevor Ozawa’s to give Manahan the title.

Ozawa couldn’t be reached Thursday evening to explain his pick.

Privately, Council observers聽and insiders聽have noted fresh tensions between some members that may be fueled by disagreement over who Council members support in the mayoral election.

While Councilmen Ernie Martin and Ron Menor will keep their positions as chair and floor leader, it is also possible that committee chair positions could be in flux.

Anderson is chair of the zoning committee, which deals with land issues and plays a crucial role in determining what developments get approved.

But then, none of this is anything聽new at Honolulu Hale, where only nine people represent a city and county of nearly 1 million people. Anderson’s district includes Kailua, Kaneohe, Kahaluu and Waimanalo.
