Five adults died Monday morning in a fiery plane crash on the south shore of Kauai, county officials said.
The names of the dead have not yet been confirmed, but they were part of a skydiving tour with . The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. just outside of Port Allen Airport in Hanapepe, according to a county news release.
The pilot, two skydive instructors and two tandem jumpers were believed to be in the plane at the time of the crash, the release said.聽Four individuals were pronounced dead at the scene and one adult male was transported to Wilcox Hospital, where he was then pronounced dead.
鲍辫诲补迟别听County officials said Tuesday that they expect to release names of the deceased Wednesday after autopsies are conducted.
Firefighters, police and medics remain at the scene of the crash as of 11 a.m. Two hours later, officials were still聽investigating the cause of the crash of the single-engine Cessna, which is owned by Skydive Kauai.
The crash resulted in a small brush fire in the surrounding area, which firefighters had extinguished by approximately 10:30 a.m. with the help of Air 1 and two water tenders provided by the Department of Public Works, a county news release says.
The National Transportation Safety Board was notified and will work with officials to help determine the cause of the crash which is unknown at this time, the release said.
Volunteers from Life鈥檚 Bridges, a grief counseling service, is assisting the families of the victims, the release says.
