The number of people seeking to succeed term-limited Billy Kenoi this year now stands at 10, and four more have pulled papers and may still file to run.
The declared candidates for Hawaii County mayor include, as you probably have heard, former mayor Harry Kim, former managing director聽Wally Lau and former Councilman Pete Hoffmann.
Contrast that with the race for Honolulu mayor, where聽nine people have pulled papers and only one candidate (someone you probably haven’t heard of) has officially filed.
Incumbent Kirk Caldwell and Council Chair Ernie Martin have pulled papers, but neither have officially filed (although Caldwell is definitely聽seeking re-election).
No word from former mayor Peter Carlisle and former lieutenant governor Duke Aiona as to what their plans are to seek the office.
