Cop Standards Board Bill Revived
The legislation had died in Rep. Mark Nakashima’s Labor Committee, but the Hawaii House has now re-referred it to two other committees.
On Wednesday a committee in the Hawaii House of Representatives shelved legislation that called for creating a statewide police standards and training board.
The purpose of the legislation is to set minimum training requirements for state and county law enforcement officer — something that every other state does but Hawaii.
But on Thursday, was given new life when Rep. Mark Nakashima decided to waive the bill out of his Labor and Public Employment Committee.
The measure has now been re-referred to House Judiciary and House Finance.
SB 2755 has not yet been scheduled a hearing in Judiciary, but we’ll be watching.
