The Hawaii state Senate issued this update on the status of its only Republican member late Friday:
State Senator Sam Slom, 73, is currently in the hospital after falling ill earlier today.
Sen. Slom attended this morning’s Senate floor session, assuring concerned colleagues that he was fine. However, as a precaution, paramedics were called after session adjourned and the Senator was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
According to the Senator, his doctors report that test results were “unremarkable.” However, he said he will be staying overnight to “sample hospital cuisine and avoid doing dishes.”
Sen. Slom thanks everyone for their concern and well-wishes and is planning to be back to work at the State Capitol next week.
Sen. Slom represents District 9, which encompasses Hawaii Kai to Kahala and Diamond Head.
We will do our best to update you on Slom’s medical status as information becomes available.
