Top Hawaii unions plan to protest a talk by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who is in Honolulu this week.

Walker is to deliver the keynote address for the Lincoln Day Dinner, sponsored by the .

It’s hosted by former U.S. Rep. Charles Djou and begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Koolau Ballrooms in Kaneohe.

A press release Tuesday morning from the Hawaii Government Employees Association — the state’s largest union — has scheduled a sign-waving rally from 5:15 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. along Kamehameha Highway near the Kionaole Road entrance to the ballrooms.

The HGEA says other unions involved include the Hawaii Fire Fighters Association, the Hawaii State Teachers Association, International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 142, the United Public Workers and the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly.

Walker, a failed presidential candidate, is a hero to many Republicans who admire his positions dealing with labor.

Democrats dislike him for much the same reason..
