Why?
Because the Hawaii Legislature says Mink听left “a lasting impression on the people of the State of Hawaii” and that Mink deserves an appropriate memorial to recognize her legacy.听
The bill, introduced by Senate Education Chair Michelle Kidani, has a hearing Friday at the Capitol.
Mink, who died in office in 2002,听was raised in Paia,听Maui.
Her accomplishments include the federal听legislation known as Title IX, which barred discrimination based upon sex in educational programs receiving federal money.听
