A 47-year-old visitor from Oklahoma died Sunday evening after a kayaking accident off of Molokai, according to Maui police.
Curtis Quillin聽was kayaking in the morning with a family member on the south shore聽when a wave hit him and knocked him into the water.聽The family member attempted to rescue him but聽another wave overturned her kayak, police said.
The family member was able to locate the victim, police said,聽but聽he was floating face down and unresponsive. Fire crews聽brought聽both to shore and conducted CPR on the victim.
He was taken to Molokai General Hospital in critical condition for further treatment, but was later pronounced dead.
Cause of death is pending autopsy results.
