Gabbard Blasts Red Hill Agreement
Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard says the need to protect water sources from fuel leaks cannot be underestimated.
Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard on Wednesday lambasted the Oct. 1聽agreement聽among聽the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Hawaii Department of Health, the U.S. Navy and the Defense Logistics Agency that outlines a plan to upgrade underground fuel storage tanks in Red Hill over the next 20 years.
She said in a that four issues should still be addressed: advanced leak detection and corrosion prevention; installation of secondary containment/double-lining or better; addressing the fuel that’s already been spilled; and cost.
“As the most isolated island chain in the world, the necessity to protect our water resources in Hawaii cannot be underestimated,” Gabbard said. “The actions we take now not only impact the health and safety of our current generations, but every generation to come.”
