Credibility is vital for journalists, whether print, online or broadcast. That’s why it caught our attention when KHON reporter Nestor Garcia was fined thousands of dollars for ethical violations that occurred when he was a Honolulu City Council member.

Garcia resigned earlier this month after a Civil Beat editorial asked why he was still on the station’s staff.

Garcia’s troubles and KHON’s refusal to take action against Garcia — or even talk about the situation — is the subject of this week’s podcast.

Pod Squad host Chad Blair is joined by Civil Beat Editor Patti Epler and Opinion Editor Todd Simmons in a discussion about why the Nestor Garcia affair is important to all of us in Hawaii.
