A former college administrator from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah will be taking over as president of BYU-Hawaii

, who worked his way up from聽English professor to department chair to academic vice president聽at , succeeds聽current-President聽Stephen聽Wheelwright.

Brigham Young University enrolls about 2,800 students at its campus in Hawaii.

Tanner 聽is currently second in command at an聽auxiliary branch of the聽Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that oversees .

鈥淚 am inspired by the vision that prophets have had for BYU鈥揌awaii,鈥 Tanner said聽in a press release.聽鈥淚 intend to build on that wonderful legacy of aloha and learning and service that exists here to bless the international Church.鈥

Tanner will be the聽10th president the has had in Hawaii since opening its doors in 1955.
