While it’s a common practice in Hawaii to park your car with the front wheels facing out, it was a surprise for Civil Beat intern and Maui native Marina Riker to find out that backing your vehicle into a parking space is unusual on the mainland. She decided to find out why so many people do it here.

It turns out we weren’t the only ones who wanted to talk about the parking practice. Marina’s report quickly went viral — especially after it was picked up by our partners at HuffPost Hawaii. Hundreds of thousands of pageviews, hundreds of comments and it’s still getting clicks.

Pod Squad host Chad Blair talks about why people want to talk about parking with Marina and Civil Beat’s managing editor Richard Wiens in this week’s edition of the podcast.
