Honolulu to Host Symposium on Development Around Rail
The event is like a progress report on how transit-oriented development is shaping up.
The City & County of Honolulu and the Urban Land Institute are sponsoring a symposium on transit-oriented development on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Blaisdell Center.
Harrison Rue, Honolulu’s director of TOD, said the conference will serve as a progress report about growth around the planned $5.26 billion rail line.
Speakers will include Mayor Kirk Caldwell; Gil Penalosa, executive director of ; Meea Kang, president of ; William Fleissig, president of and former Denver planning director; Cathy Camp, director of development for Kamehameha Schools; and local developer Stanford Carr.
Over the past year, the City Council has adopted two TOD plans and interest in TOD from the development community has substantially increased, Rue said.
Although registration for the symposium is technically full, the event is free and walk-ins are welcome.
