A Kauai-based resort developer has filed a lawsuit to prevent a planned 582-acre dairy backed by eBay founder and billionaire Pierre Omidyar.

The Garden Island Tuesday that said its business would be harmed by Hawaii Dairy Farms’ proposed dairy and its accompanying wastewater treatment unit and waste ponds.

The Hawaii Dairy Farms is funded by the Ulupono Initiative.

Kawailoa Development, which owns the nearby Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa and the Poipu Bay Golf Course on the island’s south shore, wants the dairy to be declared a public nuisance.

It also requested a study to analyze the project’s environmental and health impacts, as well as injunctive relief to make up for any harm suffered.

Hawaii Dairy Farms spokeswoman Amy Hennessey told The Garden Island that the lawsuit was a 鈥渕alicious attack on local food by commercial resort interests.鈥�
