Hirono Shepherds ‘Taste of Hawaii’ to the Hill
U.S. senator wants to introduce her favorite local foods to her colleagues.
U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono has cooked up a 鈥淭aste of Hawaii鈥 event in Washington, D.C.
鈥淚 personally love going to other states’ taste-offs,鈥 the Hawaii Democrat .

The event will consist of a menu that includes kalua pig with cabbage, somen salad, Spam musabi, taro and sweet potato based snacks, Macadamia nut sweets, Island-grown gourmet coffee and, of course, booze.
鈥淲e want to feature the foods because that really grabs people,鈥 says Sherry Menor-McNamara, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii.聽
The event is scheduled for聽July 23.
U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz and U.S. Reps. Colleen Hanabusa and Tulsi Gabbard are also expected to attend.
