Ige To Talk Kakaako Development at Forum
Hawaii candidates for governor and LG have been invited to discuss Honolulu’s growing urban core

Gubernatorial candidate聽Sen. David Ige plans to share his聽views on the future of Kakaako on Tuesday at a forum sponsored by .
The local nonprofit has invited all the main candidates for governor and lieutenant governor to speak at the event, which will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Hawaii State Capitol Auditorium.
Ige and Gov. Neil Abercrombie, the main contenders in this year’s Democratic primary, faced off in their first debate last week at the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, during which Abercrombie outdid Ige in poise and persuasiveness.
But Abercrombie, who has faced a聽barrage of criticism聽regarding the state agency managing development in Kakaako, will not be at tonight’s forum.
While the forum will feature a few other candidates, Jay Fidell, founder of ThinkTech Hawaii, said Republican gubernatorial candidate Duke Aiona has declined to attend.
Former mayor Mufi Hannemann will also not be present because he is out of town. Libertarian candidate Jeff Davis, however, is expected to participate.
Fidell said the group decided to host the event because the issue is key this election and many people are interested in what the candidates have to say about it.
ThinkTech Hawaii is a nonprofit dedicated to increasing awareness of the role of technology, energy and globalism in Hawaii’s economic future.
