Politicians don’t tend to abandon a relatively secure and powerful position to challenge an incumbent in their own party, but the larger-than-life state Sen. Clayton Hee — who often wears cowboy hats and boots — rarely lacks confidence. He recently announced he will run against the relatively little-known Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui. After playing a high-profile role in legalizing gay marriage last year and securing a $10.10 minimum wage during the recent legislative session, Hee has plenty of cash on hand and broad name recognition as he looks to the campaign ahead. It all got political cartoonist John Pritchett thinking about Hee’s prospects.
