Women in Journalism: Setting The Standard
A recent report by the Women’s Media Center found that female journalism grads tend to enter public relations and advertising agency jobs at a higher rate than men, while men go for jobs in newsrooms at higher rates than women.
In fact, that since 1999, women have accounted for only 36 percent of the staff at newspapers.
To discuss this disparity and the challenges facing women trying to break into journalism, we’re hosting a conversation with four of Hawaii’s most prominent journalists. The discussion will feature Civil Beat Editor Patti Epler, Hawaii Public Radio Executive Producer and “The Conversation” co-host , KITV reporter and columnist/reporter . Former PBS Insights host Dan Boylan will moderate the talk.
The event will take place on Tuesday, April 29 at 6 p.m. at the University of Hawaii Architecture Auditorium (2410 Campus Road) and is sponsored by Civil Beat, the , , the and the .
