It was a good week for the new , which won its first case Monday after a state court ordered police misconduct records to be public.

It was a victory for Civil Beat, too. We filed the lawsuit with the help of the law center and attorney Brian Black as the next step after our investigative series, “In the Name of the Law”, detailed the problems for the public when police disciplinary files are off limits.

Monday, Feb. 10

Gay marriage is fast becoming the norm nationwide. Hawaii lawmakers made same-sex marriages legal last year. And in Virginia a .

In Honolulu, even Macy’s is adjusting its marketing. The department store’s bridal registry now includes same-sex marriages.

It’s been this week. Local photographer Ed White said it best when he called it “creative destruction.”

The Kakaako-wide art exhibit is possible thanks to a partnership with landowner Kamehameha Schools, as part of the developer’s #OurKakaako initiative.

Many of the artists have gargantuan followings worldwide, some boasting hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram. People always talk about the millions of dollars in exposure for Hawaii thanks to the Pro Bowl. But this is the Super Bowl of street art, and it’d be interesting to know how much value the project is providing for Hawaii, as images of a hip, young neighborhood are projected to like-minded people through social media.

Hillary Clinton’s campaign hasn’t forgotten about Hawaii, particularly our idyllic winter weather. It’s not known when this photo was taken, but both Clintons have visited Hawaii several times over the years.
