A sighting of a 4-foot-long hammerhead shark closed waters off D.T. Fleming Beach Park in Kapalua on Saturday.
The shark was seen 5 to 10 yards offshore, said Maui Fire Capt. Paul Haake. Lifeguards kept people out of the water for two hours. Then, the shark was spotted at 11:15 a.m. and again at 2:30 p.m., triggering a closure until at least this morning.
