Does this legislative session seem more interesting somehow?
Lawmakers went back to work a couple weeks ago and have been packing lots of issues into committee hearings. Some days they’ve been double and triple-teaming an issue, with several committees sitting together to hear lengthy testimony on an issue. That’s tending to give the sense that lawmakers are working more efficiently and finding ways to give full airing to as many issues as possible.
Raising the minimum wage. Ethics. Social media. A tax on sugar-sweetened beverages. Guns. Emergency contraception. School bus contracts. Marijuana. Liquor taxes. Car boots.
Homelessness. Renewable energy tax credits. GMOs. Tax credits. Banning Styrofoam. Voting by mail. Feral birds. Publicly funded elections. Breastfeeding. Paparazzi.
Bills on gay marriage and gambling may yet get hearings, too.
Legislators still have about four weeks until all measures that are going to move to the opposite chamber have to be heard and acted on. (Barring gut and replace tactics, that is.)
So if you’re starting to lose track of important measures — both in and out of the Legislature — here’s 10 to catch up on from this week:
