In less than 24 hours, Hawaii got a new senator, a new lieutenant governor and a .
But the news this week was as much about who didn’t get Dan Inouye’s job as who did get it.
The well-publicized letter that Inouye sent on the day he died naming Rep. Colleen Hanabusa as his preferred successor sure put Gov. Neil Abercrombie in a tight spot.
But we’ve always known Abercrombie marches to his own drum. He went against the grain by appointing former Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz to be Hawaii’s newest senator.
And as he announced Shan Tsutsui as his new LG on Thursday, we learned that his choice of Schatz is part of a next generation transition plan Abercrombie intends to carry out. Will that end up being his legacy?
