Native Hawaiians are three times more likely to be hospitalized and 2.6 times more likely to be diagnosed with HIV infection as compared with the Caucasian population, according to federal information in a University of Hawaii news release today.

The UH med school is hosting an event, 鈥淕etting to Zero in Hawaii,鈥 at 6 this evening at the JABSOM Medical Education Building, Ilalo St., Room 315. It will focus on HIV prevention efforts here and globally, the release says.

Some 3,000 people in Hawaii live with HIV/AIDS, and 25 percent don鈥檛 realize they鈥檙e carrying the virus.聽
