It looks like there could be former state Sen. D.G. “Andy” Anderson and Kamehameha Schools for 3.5 city-owned聽acres near Haleiwa Beach Park on the North Shore.

Last week, Honolulu Budget and Fiscal Services Director Mike Hansen outlined a plan to unload the property, which was bought in the 1970s as part of a never-realized plan to build a regional park in Haleiwa.

Hansen told the Honolulu City Council in that he wants to have a sealed-bid auction between the adjacent property owners, in this case Anderson and Kamehameha Schools. The starting price would be $300,000.

There’s been some community consternation about who would get the property. Anderson has proposed building an 80-room hotel there, an idea that generated community protests.

Kamehameha Schools, on the other hand would want to use the land as a school bus parking and drop-off site next to Loko Ea Fishpond.

The auction plan has yet to be approved. But on Friday, Honolulu City Council Chairman Ernie Martin that would allow the sale of the land.
