Merriman’s automated telephone survey of 832 likely voters conducted on Sunday has a margin of error of +/- 3.4 percent. The results were weighted based on demonstrated and self-reported likelihood of voting and strength of candidate support.
The poll found 38 percent support for Romney, 33 percent for Rick Santorum, 18 percent for Newt Gingrich and 8 percent for Ron Paul. One percent was unsure, and 1 percent said they were unsure.
Merriman found that 12 percent of Ohio Republican primary voters said they had made their choice in the past few days, with 14 percent saying they had made up their mind in the past two weeks.
Of those who had made up their mind in the past few days, 43 percent opted for Romney and 28 percent chose Santorum, according to Merriman. Gingrich got 13 percent of those voters and Paul picked up the backing of 17 percent.
One week after Super Tuesday Hawaii Republicans will caucus to have their say in the presidential primary.
