Civil Beat contacted the , a trade group for the solar industry, and reviewed national and local energy data to verify the claim. Abercrombie spokeswoman, Donalyn Dela Cruz also pointed Civil Beat to data backing up the assertion.
According to market from the national nonprofit, , Hawaii does rank second in the nation when it comes to the total capacity of solar photovoltaic panels installed per person. Hawaii comes in second behind Nevada, with 33 watts installed per person through 2010. Nevada has installed 39 watts per capita. (Abercrombie became governor at the end of 2010.)
