Hawaii students are fast making a name for themselves as up-and-coming media producers.
First it was the Waianae Searider Productions Academy, then the nation’s first statewide student news network in the form of PBS Hawaii’s , and now Hawaii students have placed first in every category of a national video contest, while cleaning up with some second- and third-place awards as well.
Students from Waianae High, Maui High and Waianae Intermediate schools took home first-place prizes for news, features and sports videos in the . Students from Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School also took second place in the middle school challenge. The contest is judged by professionals in the TV news industry.
